It was an absolute pleasure to attend the PPA Scotland Chairman’s Reception at Edinburgh’s Creative Exchange last week. It’s always good to spend an evening with magazine people, but this was a little bit special. It gave me the opportunity to deliver a cheque for £1,000 to PPA Scotland Chairman Neil Braidwood and PPA Scotland Business manager Nikki Simpson.
No it wasn’t hush money (I wasn’t even at last year’s awards); it was the amazing amount raised so far from sales of the Magazine Diaries.
If you don’t know… last year more than 100 magazine professionals each took the time to write 100 words for the Magazine Diaries on how they felt about what they do for a living and the products they make. They wrote in support of MagAid, a charity using magazines to develop a love of reading and Neil and Nikki will be passing that £1,000 on to help more young people discover reading for pleasure through magazines.
I have to say it was a fantastic feeling handing over that cheque and I’d just like to thank everyone involved in the production, everyone who bought a copy, everyone who wrote 100 words, everyone who helped sell it (especially the LCC crew at the Digital Magazine Awards) and everyone who tweeted, blogged or just shot their mouth off about the project.
If you know anyone who doesn’t have a copy yet, if you lost yours, I still have plenty left, the shop’s still open, and I’d be delighted to pass on another cheque.
